Snacks for ISTEP!
Anderson Rotarians distributed healthy snacks to students at Southview Elementary School every day that the ISTEP testing was given. As part of this year's new service project, "Adopt-A-School", the Club purchased Chex Mix, Peanut Butter Crackers and Sunny Delight and gave to seven classrooms during the four days of testing. Over 30 members of the Rotary family helped this week. One teacher was in tears the first day. She said that the teachers and students have always felt forgotten in the community. It was very touching that people would volunteer their time to brighten the day for the kids and teachers.
This is just the first phase of the year long project. Books will be donated to the school library in honor of the weekly speakers at the Rotary meetings. The Club's Halloween Party is slated for October 30. In addition to being a fun social evening for Rotarians and their families, students from our adopted school as well as kids from local shelters are being invited to trick or treat at our party.
The major event of the year will be the Spring Carnival for the School. The Rotary Club will provide the funds and volunteer help to provide the largest carnival the School has ever had. Additionally, the event will not cost the school or the students anything to attend. In the past, the event has been very limited in size and attendance for economical reasons.
